»The Luneatic Express« isn’t just any railway in East Africa. Over 100 years ago, the British built this line to connect the coast with Lake Victoria, making history in the process. The Kenyan government intends to establish a railway museum on the historic grounds to share its dramatic origin story. The Augsburg University of Applied Sciences was actively involved in this initiative.
In collaboration with lecturers from the Technical University of Kenya, Andreas Muxel and Elias Naphausen organized a workshop with Kenyan students, transforming remarkable railway stories into interactive narratives.
During the one-week workshop, a team of twelve conducted their work directly on the railway site: they refined concepts, developed interactive exhibits, and presented their findings in an exhibition among the historical locomotives. This major effort was fun for everyone involved and helped shape the first concrete ideas for the museum.
