»Artistic Interpreter« turns a hand gesture into a drawing. Visitors draw freely in the air with their finger, the movement is tracked in real time and translated directly into the motion of a UR5 robot arm, which puts the line on paper. The robot becomes a drawing hand that is guided but never fully controlled.

The installation was developed by Leah Kerscher, Lora Kortes, Carolina Otto and Senih Fatih Yildiz of the Bachelor programme Interactive Media at Technische Hochschule Augsburg. It shows how know-how from the KI-Produktionsnetzwerk Augsburg finds its way into teaching projects, and how these projects in turn feed new impulses back into ongoing research.

For one evening the city center became a lecture hall, experimental field and knowledge platform: thousands of visitors got a taste of university life in the heart of the city of Augsburg during the Long Night of Science.
