The work deals with the question of whether vitality and emotional expression can be imparted to a physical object not through external features but through the manner of its movement.
To investigate this, an object was created that perceives the presence of a human counterpart through sensors and responds to it. Beneath its flexible shell lies a mechanical structure with servo motors that move the corners of the box, transforming it into something else.
The combinations of different motor movements are designed to create in us the impression of vitality and establish a connection to familiar body language.
Subjective human perception recognizes emotions such as joy, fear, or anger in an object that cannot feel them. "Not A Box" resides in a gray area of perception and encourages people to engage with their machine-influenced environment.
